They didn’t appreciate my hints that global warming was real or energy efficiency needed to be at the forefront of anyone’s mind
It’s an extremely difficult time to engage in easy conversation these days with our current political upheaval. I feel like the nation is extremely divided and it has even sunk into satellite issues, besides elections and national politics. These days, you can’t say much of anything without somebody being insulted. Somehow, everything has become a political statement and everyone is ready to protect their precious citizen rights. That’s why, I’ve been having an extremely hard time with my in-laws for the past few years. We definitely don’t see things the same way. While I’m quite liberal, they are very conservative. These days, I know better than to mention anything about the climate, healthcare, or even indoor air temperature control. Everything is a challenge to their conservative beliefs. When I was recently trying to talk to them about potential Heating and Cooling upgrades, they even found a way to be insulted by my intentions of purchasing something extremely energy-efficient. I told them I was tired of paying out the nose for my energy bills each month and I was also concerned about the tumultuous hot and cold air temperatures across the world. I wanted to make less of an impact on the outdoor climate while still controlling my indoor climate. Somehow, this led to a massive argument. They didn’t appreciate my hints that global warming was real or energy efficiency needed to be at the forefront of anyone’s mind. These days, when they come over to our house, I’m always sure to turn off the central HVAC system entirely. That way, they won’t make any smart comments about my elitist energy efficiency.
