Trying to vacuum air ducts, dog goes ham on appliance

Doesn’t it warm your heart these days to see all of the new stories about animal shelters being completely empty? Apparently, so many people are looking for companionship during the quarantine that animal adoption agencies have been able to adopt or foster every animal in their care.

  • I find this to be incredible and it really makes me feel optimistic about the world.

I also happen to be one of the fosters that those articles are talking about. A few weeks ago I welcomed Waffles into my house and he has been a blessing… for the most part. You never know what an animal has been through in the past, but clearly Waffles had battled vacuums before in his lifetime. I realized this in the worst possible way, as I was attempting to clean out my air ducts the other day. You see, since I got waffles it had become apparent that my indoor air quality was rapidly decreasing. I had noticed that the indoor air temperature was fluctuating from hot to cold for a few months, but it was apparent that my HVAC system was filthy after I saw large clumps of hair flying through the air. I was able to change out the air filter without any issues, but I really wanted to address the dirty air ducts as well. I figured I could use my Shop-Vac to effectively scrub the ductwork, and dragged the old appliance in from the garage. Just as I climbed up on a chair and began attacking the filth in my air ducts, Waffles ran in from the other room and attacked my vacuum. I fell off the chair, landed on the Shop-Vac, and scared the hell out of Waffles. I called an HVAC specialist after that. They can deal with the dog and the ducts.
