My dad has a strict rule about turning on the heat at the beginning of each season.
For some reason he decided that November 1st was the day that he would turn on the heat for the first time each year. I think that this is ridiculous because we had very cold weather long before that but he insists that he won’t spend the extra money on heating the house prior to that date. For this reason the entire family sits around freezing while our friends and neighbors are warm in their homes. Dad says that simply lighting a fire in the fireplace is all we need to do to take the chill off of the house but it only works in the room where the fireplace is located. Once you leave that space and head off to the kitchen or your bedroom it is downright cold. The funny part is that even the dog complains in her own way about being too cold because she refuses to leave the living room at the end of the night. Dad has to drag her down the hall to their bedroom where she has her crate and she sits there whining because she doesn’t want to be away from the fire. It is pretty bad when even the animals are complaining about it being cold and yet dad will not turn on the heat. All I know is when I have a house of my own I will turn on the heat whenever I want and simply pay to run it because it is not worth being cold for no reason.
