For numerous years I simply hated my task.
It wasn’t the work necessarily, it was dealing with a boss that controlled my every waking moment while I was there.
I had to abide by her schedule for supper, holiday, and even overtime but now I am free of all of that. As a designer I wanted to be in control of my own schedule and build my own customer base. I took a option and became a freelance designer and I will disclose that the first year was tough. I had to take just about any task I could find and numerous of them were more work than I anticipated. I built my reputation and now, three years later, I can support myself and I am in complete control over my hours and lifestyle. One of the things I care about most about my task is the fact that I have a property office where I can set my temperature to my liking. The old boss I had never turned on the air conditioner until it was nearly ninety outside and my associate and I would sit in our cubicles covered in sweat to death while trying to do our tasks. If my associate and I would ask to take a chop to get some fresh air she would tell us that it wasn’t time for our scheduled chop and my associate and I would just have to deal with it. I actually don’t miss those afternoons and I have no regrets about leaving the corporate world to strike out on my own. I care about my task again and that is what is most crucial. I work in a comfortable setting and never have to ask for a chop again.
