As a current homeowner I figured I had a lot to learn.
- I never genuinely helped my parents around the home and would complain if I were asked to do any manual labor.
Now, I wish I would have paid more attention to all of the little things my parents attended to on a regular basis. I don’t even know what end of the screwdriver to use for the most part so when it came time to do any routine maintenance on my Heating and A/C system I was clueless. I was talking with my Mom a few weeks ago and I was complaining that my energy bill kept going up and although I tried to split back it wasn’t working. I took short showers, put timers on my lights, and even adjusted the thermostat to try and save money. My Mom asked me when I had last changed the filter on the system. I looked perplexed and he realized that I didn’t even know I had to do that. He was right, I didn’t know anything about changing filters so when he told me that I should do that about every three months I was genuinely shocked. At that point I had lived in the home for about a year and a half and now I feel lucky that I hadn’t experienced a breakdown of my system. My Mom went on to tell me that a blocked filter could chop the system or at the really least diminish the efficiency of it significantly. I asked my Mom to come over and take a look at things in general to see if there was anything else that I was overlooking.
